Global Search

Search across sessions, messages, tool calls, activity, and terminal scrollback with Cmd+K.

Global search is a history search overlay: it looks backward across everything MadoHub has recorded, not forward across actions you could take. Open it with Cmd+K.

If you have muscle memory for Cmd+K opening the command palette — that changed. Cmd+K now opens global search. The command palette moved to Cmd+Shift+P. The two overlays are mutually exclusive: opening one closes the other, so you never end up with both stacked on screen.

Use global search to find the message where an agent mentioned a specific file, the tool call that failed an hour ago, or the session you were working in yesterday. Use the command palette to start a terminal, dispatch a Codex worker, or apply a template.

What you can do with it

  • Search messages across all sessions — full-text over every message MadoHub has recorded.
  • Search tool calls — find a tool call by its arguments or result, helpful when something failed and you want to see exactly what was sent.
  • Search the activity feed — recent activity across the canvas, surfaced immediately since it lives in memory.
  • Search terminal scrollback — query the live scrollback of every open terminal tile.
  • Jump back into a session — with an empty or very short query, the overlay shows your 10 most recent sessions, each titled with its first user message, so you can get back to what you were working on without remembering any keywords.

How to use it

  1. Press Cmd+K to open the overlay.
  2. Type at least 3 characters to run a query. With fewer than 3 characters, the overlay shows your 10 most recent sessions instead.
  3. Use Arrow Up/Down to move the selection.
  4. Press Enter (or click) to jump to the matching session, message, tile, or activity event.
  5. Press Escape to close the overlay.

What Enter does depends on the row's kind:

Row kindWhat jumping does
MessageOpens the MadoAgent chat panel and scrolls straight to that message.
Session / ToolOpens the chat panel for that session.
ActivityResets the activity panel's filter to "all", scopes it to the event's tile, pans the canvas to that tile, and pins the activity panel open.
TerminalPans the canvas to the source tile.

Each row carries a colored kind chip — session, msg, tool, activity, or term — plus a title with the matched text highlighted and a subtitle showing role/status and a relative time.

Common use cases

  • "What was that file the agent mentioned earlier?" — search for a filename and jump to the message.
  • "Which tool call failed?" — search for the error text or tool name and jump to the tool row.
  • "What was I working on yesterday?" — open Cmd+K with an empty query and pick from the recent sessions list.

Tips and best practices

  • Matched text is highlighted in the results, so you can scan quickly without reading every row.
  • The footer shows a live result count and a "searching…" indicator when terminal scrollback is still being queried — terminal results can lag a beat behind the rest because they are pulled live from each tile.
  • Anything you type is safe — special characters are treated as part of the phrase, not as search syntax.
  • If you want to run an action instead of finding something, that is the command palette at Cmd+Shift+P, not Cmd+K.
  • Command Palette — run an action right now, instead of finding something that already happened.
  • MadoAgent — where message and session results jump back to.
  • Fleet — triage active agents by state without searching.

Limitations

  • Queries need at least 3 characters to run a search; shorter queries show recent sessions instead.
  • Terminal scrollback search only runs against tiles that are currently open. Closed terminals are not searchable from the scrollback source.
  • Search matches as a phrase, not as separate OR'd terms, so "auth refactor" matches the phrase "auth refactor" rather than any row containing either word.
